Fretling – Scale Tones and Chords

Fretling is a guitar learning app for Mac and iPad. You say what you want to learn in plain language, and the fretboard shows it. Tap any note to hear it. Practice tools — tuner, metronome, amp, looper — live one tap away, over the same neck.

Anatomy of the screen

Everything sits around one stable fretboard. Two chip bars bracket the neck, and the practice tools open as floating panels that you can drag out of the way.

WhereWhat sits there
Top-leftThe Settings button, which slides the sidebar in over the canvas.
Top-rightThe practice tool icons: tuner, amp, looper, Live Detect, mixer, metronome. See Practice Tools.
Above the neckThe sentence you build, an optional scale timeline, then the marker display bar — Labels, Colors, Accidentals.
The neckSix strings, fifteen frets, every scale or chord tone drawn as a marker. Tap one to hear it.
Below the neckVisual Groupings: CAGED, chord shapes, three-notes-per-string, and string sets in Triads.

Quick start

  1. Read the sentence at the top and tap any coloured word to change it: the verb (learn or identify), the mode (scales, chords, triads), the root note, and the scale type.
  2. Tap notes on the neck to hear them. The instrument comes from Settings → Audio.
  3. Use the Labels / Colors / Accidentals chips above the neck to switch between note names and interval numbers.
  4. Use the Visual Groupings chips below the neck to lay CAGED shapes, pentatonic boxes, or 3NPS patterns over what you are seeing.
  5. Open the tools you need from the icon row in the top-right corner — they float over the fretboard and can be dragged out of the way.
