Privacy Policy

Effective date: 2026-08-20 · Applies to: Fretling for iPad and Mac

The short version

Fretling runs entirely on your device. It has no account system, no analytics, and no cloud sync. Nothing you do in Fretling is sent to a server operated by us, because there is no such server.

What Fretling stores

Fretling saves your settings and practice preferences — the mode you were in, the key and scale you last chose, display options, fret range, audio levels, tuner and metronome settings, and which app icon you picked. This is stored locally on your device using the system's standard preferences storage, inside the app's own container. It never leaves your device, and it is removed when you delete the app.

Microphone and audio input

Fretling asks for microphone or audio-interface access for three features:

Audio is processed live, on your device, for as long as one of those features is open. Audio is not recorded to a file, not stored, and not transmitted anywhere. When you close the tuner, Live Detect, and the amp, capture stops.

The Looper (Mac only) holds what you record in memory for the current session so you can practice over it. It is not written to disk and does not survive quitting the app.

Tips and payments

Fretling includes an optional tip jar in the About screen. Tips are ordinary in-app purchases handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see, receive, or store your payment details, name, or address. Apple's own privacy policy governs that transaction. Tips unlock no features — they are voluntary support and nothing more.

What Fretling does not do

Children

Fretling collects no personal information from anyone, including children under 13. There is no messaging, no user-generated content shared with others, and no way for a user to be contacted through the app.

Third-party components

Fretling is built with open-source components — a chord fingering database, a SoundFont for instrument playback, and the Neural Amp Modeler engine with its dependencies. These run locally and none of them transmit data. They are credited in the app's About screen.

Changes to this policy

If Fretling's data behavior ever changes, this policy will be updated before the change ships, and the effective date at the top will be revised.
